Marlize Verreynne
Dr Marlize Verreynne originates from Klerksdorp, South Africa. She graduated in 1997 at the Faculty of Veterinary Science, University of Pretoria. She worked as a private vet in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa for 2 years and the UK for more than 3 years. Then she worked as a State veterinarian in Botswana for 2 years before joining us in 2006. She is resident in Botswana since 2003. She is registered with the South African Veterinary Council, Botswana Veterinary Council and Royal College of Veterinary Science. She was Chair of the Westwood International PTA and served as executive committee member on Horse Society Botswana. Her passion for feline species and feline medicine is well known in Gaborone and she will go to length to comfort them. She is also the loving mother of two teenagers, 13 cats, five dogs, a lion and a leopard. “ It’s very late in life that I really started to know where and how I fitted in the world, and what it was that kept me going. I’m an avid cat lover, almost that stereotypical “crazy cat lady”. My focus is treatment of small animals and horses, although my time in the Northern Cape had me driven 200 km to do a cesarian on a cow and then drive back again. Our family’s lives are absolutely entangled with veterinary work. Both children unable to escape being exposed 24/7 365 days a year as both parents’ work is a vocation, never being able to not be a veterinarian. Furthermore living with 5 dogs, 13 cats, loads of “ free-ranging” Setswana chickens , a lion and leopard have us all solidly stuck. What you need to know about me is this: I am 100% committed to any and every animal that is entrusted in my care, I will work non-stop, reading up, asking colleagues , researching in an attempt to give my patient the best care, treatment. I don’t give up, always persevering although life has taught me that sometimes giving up on treatment and letting go is not losing but enabling a gentle animal’s spirit to free itself from a body that cannot and do not want to fight the battle any longer. My family, pets, home are the center of my world all resting on the foundation of my faith, my belief that it all fits into the Palm of the Higher Hand that has created it all.” -
